Lectors & Cantors
A lector is the person who reads the first and/or the second lesson at a Eucharist or Morning Prayer Service. Readers should have a strong desire to proclaim the scriptures of the Christian tradition and be willing to prepare their readings before sharing them with the larger congregation at a worship service. Training is available for those who desire it.
A Cantor is one who sings the psalms at a worship service. At St. George’s, we use responsorial psalms for most of the year. Here, the Cantor leads the congregation in the response and then sings the verses between these responses. A confident and/or trained singer is necessary for this work. Training is available to those who desire to take on this role.
